The Details

Why are we hosting this? Public Health Orders/guidelines have been put in place for safety reasons surrounding COVID19, which unfortunately, has led to many cancellations of local running events. We have seen a rise in virtual events that help us continue to feel connected to our Communities, such as, video-chat happy hours and birthday parties, virtual 5k races, Ironman competitions, and much more. Paradise Running Club wanted to offer our running Community a summer-long, connected, goal. What is it? The I AM ADAPTIVE Around The World Challenge is an All Abilities Challenge for those of every kind of Physical and Mental Ability who wish to participate in a Global Goal of tracking in 24,901 Miles (the approximate distance around the Earth) during a 45 Day period. With a wide variety of ways to get in your distances there is literally something for everyone to do and feel accomplished in getting US ALL one mile closer to our goal of reaching 24,901 Miles as a World Wide Team! You can run, ride your bike, walk, roll, stroll, meditate, do a fitness workout and more! Convert your steps or time into miles! When is it? The Challenge will run from October 1st to November 15th 2020, for 45 days in total duration. Can I register with Friends? Everyone Registers Individually and each Challenge Participant's distances and times count TOGETHER for the all around World Wide Mile Goal of 24,901! But we do encourage you to join the challenge with as many Friends & Family members as you can! Help us spread the word on this awesome global event! Why does the Challenge start and end in Brazil South America? This is where the largest circumference of 24,901 miles is in the world. It is a hypothetical start and stop distance to equal the total number of miles that the entire team of participants will accomplish. This is a virtual event so you can run/walk/choose your activity to count from anywhere in the world and upload your data to see your progress. After registering, participants will be given access to a website/app that will record their daily progress and update to a progress map (with Street View for an up-close look) and leaderboard. Data can be entered manually or by linking to your fitness app account. You can even attach pictures and leave comments. Don't just log distance, show us how you did it! What do I get for my Entry Fee? $15 is the General Entry Fee to Join in on this Challenge and includesas well as access to the fantastic host web platform/app. $30 for USA participants and $35 for INTERNATIONAL participants who wish to receive a Custom Challenge Medal to proudly display, as well as access to the fantastic host web platform/app. Join the I AM ADAPTIVE Around The World Challenge and help us raise money for some amazing causes while challengeing yourself to accomplish an amazing goal! #socialdistancing #iamadaptive #adaptive #adaptivechallenge #IAAATWC

The confirmation email will include a link to My Virtual Mission (MVM) and specifically the Virtual-I AM ADAPTIVE Around The World Challenge. Sign up here. Q) How do I receive my Medal? A) You will input your address where prompted at sign-up and your Medal will be sent there! Q) Is there an Age limit? A) No. Registered participants can be of any age. Q) What if I wanted to participate with my young child? A) The host platform will allow you set your display name, if you'd like to make it a family affair, just enter "Smith Family." Use the manual add feature to record their steps or estimated distance. If you'd like to order an extra medal, please contact IAAChallenge@gmail.com before September 15th, 11:59 a.m. Q) Can I use any Fitness Apps to track my time and distances? A) YES! You can link your favorite apps (Garmin, Underarmor, Fitbit etc.) into your MyMission backend once you sign up so that you can track your time and distances. If there are issues, you can just log into the website/app to manually add your distance and activity type. You can even DELETE and re-enter your time/distances if you mess up or have an issue. Q) This seems like a lot of distance? A) When you break it down it wouldnt be that much distance per person if we got enough of the word out! - If 100 people signed up then each participant would need to complete 62.25 miles per week. - If 500 people signed up then each participant would need to complete 12.45 miles per week. - If 1,000 people signed up then each participant would need to complete 6.23 miles per week. - If 5,000 people signed up then each participant would need to complete 1.23 miles per week. - If 10,000 people signed up then each participant would need to complete .6 miles per week. Q) Do I have to run the whole way? A) Nope! The website/app is set up to accept running, walking, steps and wheelchair activities that occur indoors or outdoors. Q) Do I need to show proof of completing an activity? A) No, this is based on the honor system. If it's linked up to a fitness app, that's fine, but if you use manual entry, we just ask that you do your best to estimate the mileage. There are no prizes for anyone who adds more miles than someone else, so there's no point in cheating the system. Let's honor this Challenge and trust that all participants are adding in their honest miles! Q) Can I patricipate anywhere in the world? A) Yes! This is an All Abilities Challenge that can be done anywhere in the world! Q) Can I join after the event has started? A) Participants can join the event at ANY time between October 1st to November 15th 2020!
